A little while ago, I wrote down a set of goals. One of them read: Word Hard and Be Proud of What You Do.

For the first time, I can proudly say that I held true to this goal. I was able to work through my task and see it to the end. And I feel really good about it. I feel like I succeeded. And finally because it has been a long time coming. A tough year and a half. Things haven’t looked as bright as they do today.

I know I’m being sort of vague about it. I wanted to share this but I’m not quite prepared to make it any more personal. No photo for this post, folks. It needs to stand alone.

This is one small victory with a long road ahead. I hope to share more of my goals as their relevance comes into play.

ESPN.com posted this headline after the New York Knicks lost to the New Orleans Hornets last week. Someone should have seen this coming. With the so called, Linsanity, going on in the world race was one thing that many were hard pressed to leave out. Even boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. tweeted that much of Lin’s popularity was based on race rather than skill. Regardless, Lin has shown that skill has much to do with it and has said that skill includes his team as well. Even so, the New York Knicks still have much to go through to secure a playoff spot. In response to much “lindignation” that has been ongoing within the media, Saturday Night Live opened last night’s show with a satirical piece of their own. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

It is so easy to get distracted while studying. Too bad I didn’t focus that distraction on writing a meaningful blog post. Instead, I discovered the Lytro – Light Field Camera. Holy smokes! What a game changing type of technology this is.

Essentially, the Lytro camera dumbs things down back to the basic point and shoot that you might find on an old smartphone. You have an on/off button, a zoom function and a capture button. That’s it! No more thinking about where or what you want to focus on. You can worry about that later. Just frame your image, make sure you have enough light, and snap away.

One drawback is the resolution that you will be able to produce. The maximum print size sounds like it might be 5×7. But on a digital level, this kind of thing is pretty amazing. Have a look for yourself, feel free to click around this image. You can find more examples here: http://www.lytro.com/living-pictures. Oh I cannot wait to get my hands on one of these. Mobile WebKit support as well? Wow

Maybe you’ll see a Lytro enabled banner on this site in the coming months!

I apologize that I haven’t been able to sit down and write the meaningful posts I have been wanting to discuss. In the meantime, I encourage you to listen to this week’s sermon from Westside Church. Pastor Norm dives deep into Habakkuk (four verses) and asks “Who do you cry out to?” He opens the window and gives you something to gaze/explore upon this Sunday afternoon.

A few questions that you might consider as well:
- What causes you to cry out to God more: His seeming silence or His apparent indifference?
- How could anger toward injustice serve as an evidence of God’s existence?
- What is your normal reaction to sin within the people of God? Are you burdened by what you see?
- How do God’s silence and patience (meaning His not intervening) serve you in becoming more like Jesus?
- How is Jesus the answer to our cries for help and an intervention of God?

Next Week at Westside Church: Are you ready to listen when God answers?

My career as a writer has been non-existent. Of course, a part from a short stint at my high school newspaper, The Journal, and a few brief university papers. Writing is something that I have held closely but just haven’t been good at. Please bear with me as I try to find a style that works and an efficient way to part my thoughts and concerns. Here is a sneak peek at a few things in the coming weeks.

This isn’t my first attempt at starting a blog but I am hoping it’s my last. For years, I have wanted to create a space that I could call mine. A space where I could voice my concerns and thoughts, and not just show my face or scribble 140 characters. I didn’t hold this sentiment until a few weeks ago… when I felt that social media just wasn’t enough.

I wanted to address issues that mattered to me, issues that were affecting the community within and the world around me. I started this blog but the urge to hammer out words wasn’t there. I continued to search for a concrete plan, a set of goals that would provide a bit of direction. So this is what I came up with.

Why?

- to garner a voice and express my opinions/beliefs
- to create a forum of discussion on a variety of pressing current events and issues
- to create a space where I can document and share major events and matters
- and to work upon a personal, local, regional, and global level

Whether anyone cares is beyond me. But I hope that… so much this is for me, it may also affect how someone else thinks, feels, or acts. And that it might make the world to them, or it may just affect the world in some way. Lofty, but definitely worth risking looking like a fool.

Proverbs 3: 5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.”
